Miriam Jaskierowicz Arman:
"When art becomes memory, tradition and a journey into the human soul"
There are artists who create works, and there are artists whose lives themselves become one great work. Miriam Jaskierowicz-Arman is one of those rare artists for whom art is not just a profession, but a way of life, a spiritual language and a means of documenting human memory.
Miriam is an international artist, painter, writer, poet and professor of voice development. For decades, she has been exploring the connection between voice, spirit, art and tradition, while developing a unique approach based on the tradition of singing of the Levites in the Temple. For her, the work is a profound expression of identity, history and soul.
As the daughter of Holocaust survivors, born in Germany after World War II, Miriam carries with her a significant personal and historical baggage. Her family stories, the memory of the Holocaust, the heritage of the Jewish people and the tradition passed down from generation to generation have been assimilated into her works and have become an inseparable part of the artistic language she has developed over the years.
Her works deal with pain and hope, brokenness and growth, memory and life. She manages to combine personal experiences with the broader story of the Jewish people, thus giving her works an extraordinary emotional and historical depth.
One of the central themes in her work is the study of the human face. Miriam observes glances, expression lines and the language of the eyes. For her, the eyes are a window into a person’s inner world. She is not satisfied with a visual description, but seeks to penetrate the emotion, the story and the human experience behind the gaze. Each portrait is a journey of discovery, listening and observation.
Color also has a central place in her world. Miriam treats color as an emotional and spiritual language, one that is capable of conveying deep feelings even before the words are spoken. The choice of colors, textures, and compositions stems from an intuitive connection to emotion and memory.
Technically, Miriam combines diverse materials, including cut glass, pastel colors, and other techniques that create layers of light, depth, and movement. The use of glass gives her works an additional dimension of transparency and fragility, echoing the sensitivity and power that characterize the subjects of her work.
Throughout her life, she lived in different countries, and each place she lived left its mark on her work. The cultures she encountered, the landscapes, the people, and the traditions she encountered became an integral part of the visual world she builds, combining her Jewish identity with her international experiences.
For Miriam Jaskierowicz Arman's art is not just aesthetics. It is testimony. It is memory. It is an ongoing study of the human being and his spirit. Through her paintings, writings, poems and glass works, she invites the viewer to look within, to feel, to ask questions and to connect with a human story that transcends borders, generations and cultures.
Miriam’s work forms a bridge between past and present, between tradition and innovation, and between personal experience and the universal story of humanity. It is a moving body of work, with cultural and spiritual depth, that leaves a strong impression and invites the viewer on a journey of contemplation, memory and hope.
